DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for Monthly SMART Wind Virtual Meetings!\nElectrical Subgroup Meeting: April 29\, 1-2 pm ET\n \nAll interested stakeholders are invited to participate in the Distributed Wind Energy Association (DWEA) SMART Wind Consortium virtual meeting for the Consortium’s Electrical Subgroup featuring Jim Sims\, Vice President Corporate Communications for Molycorp\, Inc.\, presenting on “Rare Earth Magnets in Distributed Wind Turbines.” Dr. Xing Chen\, Argonne National Laboratory\, will also present on rare earth magnets. Following the presentations\, we will lead a subgroup discussion to hear your thoughts and ideas. \nThe Electrical Subgroup met face-to-face in Washington\, DC\, on March 26\, 2015\, where distributed wind manufacturers and designers\, members of the power electronics industry\, alternator experts\, consultants\, and academic researchers discussed important topics such as inverter technology\, cost- effective power electronics\, rare earth magnets\, smart grid\, and opportunities in technology advances and manufacturing methods for cost reduction and reliability improvement. \nDWEA launched the U.S. Department of Commerce-funded Sustainable Manufacturing\, Advanced Research and Technology (SMART) Wind Consortium in October 2014\, starting a 2-year process of creating a U.S. Distributed Wind Roadmap to identify advanced manufacturing gaps and opportunities. The Consortium consists of four subgroups\, focused on Mechanical Systems\, Support Structures\, Composites\, and Electrical Systems. All subgroups have participated in face-to-face kickoff meetings; subsequent subgroup meetings will be held virtually\, leading up to the final Roadmap Prioritization meeting in March 2016. \nYou will receive the GoToMeeting login information after you register.
