Final Subgroup Kickoff, Electrical Systems, March 26

DWEA SMART Wind Consortium Holds Final Subgroup Kickoff, Electrical Systems, March 26

DWEA launched the U.S. Department of Commerce-funded Sustainable Manufacturing, Advanced Research and Technology (SMART) Wind Consortium in October 2014, starting the 2-year process of creating a U.S. Distributed Wind Roadmap to identify advanced manufacturing gaps and opportunities. The Consortium consists of four subgroups, focused on Mechanical Systems, Support Structures, Composites and Electrical Systems. The first three subgroup kickoffs were held in November 2014 (Mechanical), January 2015 (Support Structures) and February 2015 (Composites) with a successful combination of face-to-face dialogue and virtual participation. Following these kickoffs, subsequent subgroup meetings will be held virtually, leading up to the final Roadmap Prioritization meeting in March 2016.

DWEA’s final subgroup kickoff meeting of the Electrical Subgroup will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Washington, DC, following Distributed Wind 2015. Attendees are also invited to a preceding dinner on the evening of March 25. Additional meeting information can be found here: https://distributedwind.org/events/smart-wind-electrical-systems-subgroup/

The Electrical Subgroup will bring together distributed wind manufacturers and designers, members of the power electronics industry, alternator experts, consultants and academic researchers to discuss important topics such as smart grid, inverter technology, cost effective power electronics for low volume production, the latest in alternator design, electrical safety testing and certification, and opportunities in technology advances and manufacturing methods for cost reduction and reliability improvement.

DWEA would like to thank UL and Intertek for co-sponsoring the meeting.
