Devon Rocky McIntosh

Devon Rocky McIntosh, Ph.D., is the Founder and CEO of Sonsight Wind, a distributed wind company advancing next-generation small wind technology to improve performance, reliability, and accessibility within moderate-wind environments. With more than three decades of experience across physics, electrical engineering, and applied energy innovation, Dr. McIntosh brings deep technical expertise and long-term industry perspective to the distributed wind sector.

He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Howard University and dual bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. His career includes research and engineering roles at Howard University, NASA Goddard, NIST, Corning, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, where he worked on complex physical systems, electromagnetic modeling, and energy-related applications.

Dr. McIntosh is the inventor of patented low-RPM permanent-magnet generator technology designed to reduce losses, improve efficiency and provide more power per mass in small wind turbines. His work has been supported by competitive funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (via NREL) and USDA, and he was recognized with the 2023 DWEA Innovator Award for his contributions to distributed wind technology.

Through Sonsight Wind, Dr. McIntosh remains focused on strengthening the distributed wind ecosystem by advancing technology, supporting standards-based deployment, and expanding access to resilient energy solutions for communities, institutions, and off-grid applications. He brings to the industry a commitment to technical rigor, collaboration, and the long-term growth of the distributed wind industry.
