Ian Brownstein is a co-founder and the CEO at XFlow Energy. Ian’s work has been widely cited in the wind energy research community, and he is a named inventor on multiple patents related to wind turbine rotor design and renewable energy power electronics. He is an active participant in advancing small wind turbine standards including being a member of the IEC 61400-2 revision committee.
Ian earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, where he focused on aerodynamic interactions in vertical-axis wind turbine arrays. His doctoral research included managing and monitoring a research wind farm in Lancaster, California, and conducting field experiments in remote locations such as Igiugig, Alaska. He also holds an MS in Space Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and dual bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Egyptian & Western Asian Archaeology from Brown University.
