Megan Amsler’s journey in the renewable energy sector began in 1994, where she began working with solar and a floating wind turbine to remediate a contaminated pond. Since 2001, Megan Amsler has been the Executive Director of Self-Reliance, a non-profit, women-led organization, whose mission is to simplify complex energy issues to educate, inspire, and empower people to take action.
Megan has a wide range of subject matter experience in renewable energy systems and workforce training. She has been involved in small wind, community wind, offshore wind, residential and commercial solar, including community-shared solar projects.
She also teaches a variety of classes on renewable energy-from college level to elementary. She worked with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy to establish the first full suite of the Global Wind Organization’s basic safety training modules in the US for the offshore and land-based wind industry and is a GWO Basic Safety Training certified instructor. She is a board member of the Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative and the Maritime Center for Responsible Energy.
Megan has a BA in Sociology and did her Masters work in Education. She is a mom of two. She is an avid student of the horse and raises heritage bred quarter horses while living on a small organic farm in Hatchville, MA.
