PNNL 2024 Distributed Wind Market Report Now Available

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) recently announced the publication of its Distributed Wind Market Report: 2024 Edition. According to the report, sixteen U.S. states in 2023 added 10.5 MW of new distributed wind capacity from 1,999 turbine units, representing $37 million in investment. Ohio, Illinois, and Alaska led the U.S. in new distributed wind capacity additions, while Oklahoma and Alaska added the majority of small wind capacity in 2023. Distributed wind projects for commercial customers accounted for 42% of the number of all projects installed in 2023, followed by agricultural customers at 34%.

Distributed wind projects across ten states received a total of $12.4 million in state-level incentives, state level production tax credits, and USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grants in 2023, which is more than double the $5 million paid across eight states in 2022 and 2021.
